The current, 3rd, phase of the project begun in early 2007 and will be completed by December 2008. Main goal of this phase is to develop alternate infrastructures for the collection, organization and dissemination of Research and Technology content. It is an organized effort based on our vision to create infrastructures that will provide Open Access to scientific results. They will operate according to international standards and will constitute interactive digital spaces for the dissemination of knowledge, free of geographical borders and technical restrictions.

In brief, the immediate goals of the project ‘'National Information Research and Technology System- 3rd Phase, Repositories and Scientific Open Access E-Journals'' are the following:
• To discover and implement the best solution for the development of a digital repository infrastructure, and to populate the repository with digital research material, such as dissertations, publications etc.
• To create a publishing mechanism for electronic publications
• To create an institutional repository of the collection, preservation and dissemination of scholarly publications of NHRF

The main indirect goals of this project are:
• To provide open access to the entirety of the scholarly publications material of NHRF
• To increase the impact of research in national and international level
• To improve communication among members of the research community
• To improve the use of new technologies among the research community
• To develop user-friendly infrastructures for the dissemination of scientific knowledge adapted to the needs of the scholarly community
• To promote the alternative infrastructures developed by EKT, so that they become indispensable tools for the scholarly community

The Greek website for open access is part of the project "National Information System for Research and Technology, Phase III – Open Access Electronic Repositories and Journals” which is being implemented by the National Documentation Centre under the framework of “Digital Greece” (www.psifiakiellada.gr) and is co-funded by the European Union - European Regional Development Fund (80%) and by the Hellenic State (20%) through the Operational Programme Information Society (3rd CSF 2000-2006).
